Mind your Manners…

Proper table etiquette doesn’t just make you look nice–it can also help you lose weight

Here’s something to chew on:

SIT UP STRAIGHT.

You instantly look taller and thinner, and the more “formal” posture makes you less likely to linger at the table. Many people eat way more than they need just because they’re too comfortable.

CHEW SLOWLY

It takes the brain several minutes to register that you’re full. By taking slower, longer bites, you actually savor the flavor and give your body time to tell you when you’re ready to stop.

TRY A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING

It’s not polite in Pinoy society to refuse food. Today’s diet gurus say that it may not be prudent. Many people fall off a diet because they feel deprived. So go ahead — satisfy a craving with one or two bites, then fill up the rest of our plate with the healthy stuff.

The Menopausal Stage

When a woman reaches the age between 45 and 60, expect the natural occurence of aging, end of menstrual flow, and stopping of production of estrogens. But did you know that women reaching the menopausal stage are at risk of getting osteoporosis and heart disease?

In this stage, women are more likely to suffer from osteoporosis or the thinning of the bones. This rapid change occurs due to the loss of estrogen in the body. Other factors that increase the risk of this illness are vices, such as cigarette smoking, family history, slim body built and race (Caucasian or Asian).

Good Dog Grooming Tips

Dogs aren’t too finicky or delicate to care for. Except for the occasional hairball, dogs are generally low-maintenance pets. But good care doesn’t just mean providing food and a decent home, or playing with them when you have the time. It goes beyond the regular bath and brushing.

Grooming your pet can be an excellent way to bond with him. If you don’t have the time, however, consider a visit to the grooming center. Despite the cash outlay, it becomes worth the trip when you consider efficient service and guaranteed outcome.

A growing number of pet grooming centers have sprouted all over the city. Some offer dog training services or sell pet supplies. Others are expanded veterinary clinics where your pet gets the added bonus of a physical check-up before grooming. Managed by licensed veterinarians, these centers can give your pet the grooming he deserves.

Don’t Wait for Brain Damage

Did you know that some of our bad habits may lead to possible brain damage? Scary but true. Find out if you’re guilty of any of the following:

  1. Skipping Breakfast. People who skip this important meal get lower blood sugar levels that lead to an insufficient supply of nutrients to the brain, and therefore cause brain degeneration.
  2. Overeating. Excessive food intake hardens brain arteries and causes hypertension and small strokes, which decrease mental power.
  3. Sleepless nights. Depriving yourself of sleep will increase the death rate of brain cells. Remember that sleeping allows our brain to rest.
  4. Smoking. There are about 4000 different chemicals in a cigarette that cause multiple brain shrinkage and Alzheimer’s Disease.
  5. Substance abuse (alcohol and drugs). Avoid alcohol as much as possible or at least keep to a minimum. Do not take drugs and medicines unless absolutely necessary. If you’re burned out, stressed, or depressed, why not rely on meditation, exercise, and a healthy diet instead?
